I am inquiring about the Undergraduate Essay Contest and would like to know what exactly constitutes an ''undergraduate"? I know obviously it means one who has yet to graduate from university, however I have graduated, on and off, several times and quite awhile ago, and yet would be very much interested in participating nonetheless.
I suppose I am asking  must one be enrolled in school currently to participate?
Further I would  ask if one could direct me to critical reviews/essays of:  A Handful of Dust,  in particular? I would be so appreciative if one would know where to point me.
Thank you so much for your time and I so hope I may participate. If not in this contest, would there be another, for those of us who perhaps, have discovered that living outside of university is quite another education altogether?
    Kind Regards,

    Frederika Beauchamp

A complicated question.  If you are enrolled in undergraduate courses, you are obviously eligible.  If you have something on Waugh that you wrote as an undergraduate, that would be acceptable.  But if you have graduated and you want to write a new essay on Waugh, I'm afraid I couldn't accept it.

The undergrad contest is the only one we are currently sponsoring, but you can certainly write and contribute something to Evelyn Waugh Newsletter and Studies.

The essays on Handful of Dust which come to mind are in Evelyn Waugh: The Critical Heritage, ed. Martin Stannard (reviews upon publication) and Critical Essays on EW, ed. James F. Carens (scholarly reconsiderations).  Both books published about 1987.

    Best wishes,
