Waugh Conference Details Announced

Details have been announced of the Evelyn Waugh conference to be held at the Huntington Library in San Marino, California in the spring. Evelyn Waugh: Reader, Writer, Collector will take place on May 5 & 6 (Fri. & Sat.) to celebrate Loren and Frances Rothschild’s donation of their Waugh collection to the Huntington and will explore the biographical, practical, and disciplinary significance of the new holdings. The conference is jointly sponsored by the Rothschilds, the Evelyn Waugh Society, and Leicester University’s Complete Works of Evelyn Waugh project.

Conference speakers include many of the world’s foremost Waugh scholars and biographers including Waugh’s grandson Alexander Waugh, author of Fathers and Sons: The Autobiography of a Family, Robert Murray Davis, Donat Gallagher, Naomi Milthorpe, Douglas Lane Patey, Ann Pasternak Slater and Martin Stannard. Other noted Waugh scholars appearing include Barbara Cooke, Chip Long, Lewis McLeod, Richard Oram, Jonathan Pitcher, Patrick Query, Nigel Wood, and Henry Woodhuysen. Several of the speakers also serve as editors of volumes in the Complete Works series.
